What type are you? Take the MBTI

Personality tests are often a waste of time because the majority of them don't tell you anything you don't already know about yourself. One exception, however, has been around since the 1940s, based on the concepts of Carl Jung, the coolest, most brilliant, enlightened, big-picture-kind-of-thinker shrink to ever walk the earth. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) was developed by a mother-daughter team after reading Jung's Psychological Types in 1923. It's main purpose was to help people get a better fit between themselves and their jobs. Over 2 million people each year take the test, and it's been translated into 16 languages. It's used extensively in career counseling and development, by Fortune 500 businesses and educational institutions.

Everyone's personality contains a certain degree of the eight following traits:

Introvert/Extrovert (I,E)
Intuitive/Sensing (N,S)
Thinking/Feeling (T,F)
Perceiving/Judging (P,J)

By answering a series of questions where you must pick one of only two possible answers that best describe yourself, you will find out which one of 16 possible "types" you are. The results are surprisingly accurate and over the course of 15 years since I first took the MBTI during a career workshop at Harvard, I've always scored as an ENTP (Extrovert iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving).

Once you take the test, you can research your results and find out which professions best suit your personality type. It's also cool to compare results with co-workers, lovers, friends and family members to see why they do that thing that drives you nuts or why a certain thing will push your buttons so you better understand where not only they are coming from, but yourself, too. The official licensed test is expensive, however I found an identical online version which is free. Have fun, and if you're someone I know, I'd love to hear what type you are so please drop me a line. Aloha.
